Shorts in Turmeric Mala

We love comfortable clothes for kids and unique prints infused with colour, culture + soul. Our small batch of Shorts in Turmeric Mala feature an adjustable drawstring elastic waist and can be worn longer or rolled for a shorter style. Longer length also allows some room for growing kids:-) The fabric is lovely, smooth + organic and we’ve added two pockets for storing little treasures.

Motif + colourway: This beautiful motif is a traditional Indian Kalamkari design which was printed for us by a Bangalore printing studio in our signature colourway of turmeric, red and a little bit of blue. Each coloured part of this beautiful traditional motif is carved onto a separate wooden block in India and then each colour separately printed onto our fabric by hand using traditional methods. This colourway, Turmeric Mala, was named ‘turmeric’ as it’s reminiscent of the mustard-coloured spice used widely in Sri Lankan Sinhala cooking and traditional Sri Lankan ayurvedic medicine. ‘Mala’, a play on words, means flower in Sinhala, but means ‘bad’ in Spanish. We feel that this name embodies the design; Beautiful, fun, playful and maybe a little bit cheeky!

Fabric: Organic cotton, hand block printed, AZO free eco friendly dyes

Made:  In India under fair trade working conditions

Care: Gentle machine wash cold using mild detergent. Do not scrub. Line dry in shade.

* Please be aware that block printing does contain what some might consider ‘imperfections’. These are not faults, but sign of the human process by which the fabric was printed. We believe these slight differences give our items character and evidence the wonderfully human element present during their making.
